30 minutes till Halloween...

...and I did it! I learned the "Thriller" dance!!!!

I'm going to post my video--in a second--but this part, it turns out, is even scarier than learning the dance. Eeek! Or maybe that's to be expected? The posting is the "dancing in public" part, I guess.

Before I post the vid, a few disclaimers:

--unlike E. Lockhart and many other fabulosos (I've seen John Green and M.T. Anderson cut the rug quite dashingly), I am NOT a dancer. I think my hips are built differently than other people's. Like, with glue.

--I ended up having to hire a PROFESSIONAL THRILLER TRAINER in order to learn the dang thing. Curse zombie arms!!!! They were the death of me. (Though I did spring back to life. Sort of. I mean, I'm still breathing and all.)

--since I needed to be beautiful for my film premier, I went to see my lovely Turkish hairstylist, Kazim, who told me I simply HAD to let him "thread" my eyebrows. And since I always say "yes" to Kazim (and pretty much anyone else), I let him. So there was that trauma going on, too. Because he also then "threaded" (read, plucked, but with thread, and it was kinda cool but more freaky) my MUSTACHE which I did not know I had, and also some nose hairs. Um, that was a sensory experience I can't even begin to describe. So if I look oddly...pained about the eyebrow, mouth, and nose area, that is why. Or it could be the pain of dancing. Or trying to dance.

--BUT I DID IT!!!!! I DID THE DANG DANCE!!!! And I am exhilarated, in spite of (on top of?) my eyebrow/upper lip/nose pain and utter exhaustion.

I can't hold off posting any longer, as I'm off to Texas tomorrow for the Texas Book Festival. All of y'all Texans, please come! Especially as I've been warned that HECKLERS may attend my session and tell me I'm a bad, bad girl for writing ttyl. Aaaargh.

Maybe if they watch the vid they'll realize how utterly harmless I am?

So, um, okay. Here goes. Be kind!!!!

You are hugely sweet to comment--and you're the first commenter, at that!!!!!! Thank heavens you were sweet!

WOW! Woo-hoo! That was awesome, Lauren! You weren't as bad as you said you were, and I didn't see you do anything funky because of your pained eyebrow, mouth, and nose area. Your costume was really cute too! But seriously, I can't stop laughing at the booty-slap part.
CONGRATULATIONS LAUREN!!! YOU FACED YOUR FEAR!!!

~Carmela:D

p.s. Take that 7th grade P.E. teacher that didn't let Lauren dance the "Thriller" with the rest of her class!

Sincerely!!!!!!

I had to dance to Thriller in the 9th grade. It was a total trauma. I knew you and I had a bond. :-)

Hurray, you faced your fear! =D Hey, maybe you should locate Mrs. Swanson and send it to her. >D
When my brother was in seventh grade last year and they had to do the Thriller dance, he stayed home sick. xD

Yay!!!

And can I just say that threading is, like, a gagillion times more painful than plucking, in my opinion! But also much more efficient. Girl's gotta do what she's gotta do.

You, go, Thriller girl!

THank you, sweet Lizzie. And you know what? It *did* hurt, the threading, but not too bad.

I'm actually kinda digging the new cleaned up look...

Best. Video. EVER!!!

Take that John and Hank Green!

The titles made me laugh. The music took me back. My 14 YO son asking, "Mom, what's Thriller?" made me go, WHAT!?!? Was it really THAT long ago? Yeah. It was. Poop.

In honor of you doing this, I, the biggest wimp next to Ally Carter, will now read your novel, BLISS. I wasn't going to. But I will. And I'll blog about it. Stay tuned...

Lisa! You sweet sweet sweetie. Rock your wimpy self on!

And: my sis complimented the video, too, and said, "Wow, that looks almost professional." And *I* said--and it's true--that it's so much easier to make a video than I thought! And FUN! E. Lockhart has told me as much for months, but I didn't believe her until I got down and dirty with Michael J.

Plus, I have a very cool babysitter who is hip with these things...

And I thought before...
Lauren, I'm pretty sure I've told you at least once that you are my hero, but now you are like my HERO HERO. Hero squared. Hero to the max. Take your pick, but in short you are MY HERO. I could list all the reasons why *recalls time when Maddie asks Angela to list all her great traits in the TTYL series* but that would take a while. So I'm basically going to say that you are chill, you are amazing, and probably one of the most fun people to hang out with in the history of ever.

Oh, and I'm facing not ONE, but TWO of my fears. 1: I am going to see High School Musical 3. I know, I know. Cue applause.

2: I am going to watch a scary movie. Disturbia, to be specific. I hate scary movies. I hate everything about scary movies. They scar me for life and haunt me always. It takes me quite a few years to get over the mildest of movies. But I am going to watch Disturbia. Maybe even at night, if I am feeling bold.

I might add on another fear to face--putting a video of me singing on YouTube--but I'm not sure it's worth it.

But since I felt like both my fears seem pretty stupid, putting them together is the best I can do for now.

Ciao! Happy Halloween!!!

Miley Cyrus????? Oh, and I know what a Hannah fan you are, so that's huge. (Urm, just to soften the embarrassment factor for Jen, the reason I know Jen likes Miley's music is cuz we've kind of, well, bonded over it...)

Thanks, you silly goose!
